Land deed for a section on lower Albert Street, Auckland, with description: Town of Auckland, Parish of Waitemata, County of Eden, allotment no. 5, section 16. Dated 15 August 1842. Area: 1 rood, 8 purchases. Price: £132. John Swainson purchased this allotment by auction on 19-20 April 1841 (see New Zealand government gazette, 14 July 1841).

Collection comprises a student research essay by Valerie Willis. The essay offers an alternative analysis of the "Ngati Paoa invasion" of Auckland in 1851 which was essentially intertribal warfare between Ngati Paoa, supported by Ngati Tamatera and Ngati Whanaunga. This was sparked when the Ngati Paoa chief, Te Hoera, was struck by a Maori policeman who happened to be a member of the Ngati Paoa tribe

Collection includes papers relating to the Samoa Shipping & Trading Company and Allen family history. The collection relates primarily to the liquidation of the shipping company after the death of Captain E.F. Allen in 1924. It would appear that material in the collection was collated by Captain E.F. Allen's son Robert Houghton Allen who served in the Australian Imperial Forces during the First World War. Robert Allen died in New Zealand in 1972.
