Scope and Contents

Collection comprises papers relating to the inquiry into the Tangiwai rail disaster which occurred on 24 December 1953 including detailed geological descriptions of the Lake before and after the lahar. David Mason was President of the New Zealand Canoeing Association and he and Mr L.S. Vause undertook surveys of the Crater Lake both before and after the disaster.
