A collection of typographical specimens representative of the craft of various New Zealand printers and presses. A holograph poem 'Written in Cold' by Robin Hyde is on the reverse of a menu from the "Spotted Dog" in the Unicorn Press file, along with a copy of 'Katherine Mansfield : a critical essay / by Arthur Sewell'. Auckland : Unicorn Press, 1936, signed by the author.
Collection of printing specimens produced by Ronald Holloway's Griffin Press. The collection includes books, flyers, religious indulgences and proclamations, invitations and announcements and examples of letterhead and ex libris labels.
The collection also includes a number of printing blocks and a small amount of typeface.
On cover: Elsie and John Beaglehole greet you | wish you a merry Christmas & a happy | new year and pray for your cheer- | ful emergence from the Depression | Christmas MCMXXXII. Most probably printed by Bob Lowry at the AUCSA Press at Auckland University College, 1932. Probably designed by Beaglehole himself. This example is unique.
