Collection contains material collected by Joris de Bres, Vice President of the Citizens Association for Racial Equality (CARE) relating to the Pacific Islands and to the Overstayers
issue, 1974-1977 and Pacific Islanders' position in New Zealand during the 1970s. Includes newspapers clippings, subject files and some correspondence.

Biographical / Historical
Joris de Bres (1947- ) was New Zealand’s Race Relations Commissioner from 2002-2013. He was previously General Manager, External Relations in the Department of Conservation and head of industrial relations for the New Zealand Public Service Association.
Joris de Bres attended Auckland University from 1965-68, and from 1974 was vice-president of CARE, and editor of the Tonga Newsletter, put out by the Resource Centre for World Development. (1978).
