 File — Box: 7
Identifier: MSS. Archives. 94/4. Series 3. File 51

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The papers that have been grouped here, and arranged as far as possible chronologically, relate to W. McAra’s active life in political organisations from membership of the New Zealand Labour Party and his period as President of the Thames Labour Party Representation Committee, 1937, to his expulsion from the Communist Party of New Zealand in 1974. From the early 1960s the papers also include those of Diana M. Wilsie.

The continued interest of McAra and Wilsie in CPNZ internal politics, in the formation of alternative Marxist/Leninist parties, in trade unions (Federation of Labour) and in the Waihi Strike Commemoration ceremonies, takes these papers through to 1985.

Much of this material was received unsorted and loose in boxes. There were many sheets of notes which were difficult to place, if they appeared to be related to the CPNZ they were placed with more readily identified papers, and the whole was arranged chronologically (Items 48-61).

More clearly defined collections of CPNZ material, e.g. papers relating to the ESPAL Society, follow from Item 62 to Item 76.
