Scope and Contents
This subseries contains records for censuses conducted in Nukunono in 1966, 1967-68, 1971,1976,1981 and 1986, and for censuses held in Atafu in 1970/71, 1976, 1981 and 1991. The majority of these censuses were conducted at household level and include information on household composition, household accommodation, income and possessions including live stock.
This subseries also includes records relating to a census of Tokelau Households in Wellington conducted during 1972. This particular study was conducted over a six month period and does not represent a true "no time" census of the type which can be found in Series 3: among the records relating to the Tokelau Island Migrant Study.
Huntsman's detailed description of this material is included in the carton, her descriptions of each census include population figures for each census..
Note that the census figures for 1951 and 1956 for all of Tokelau from K.Jupp's study can be found in Series 5: Demographic research regarding population regeneration in Tokelau.
