Field research.

 Series
Identifier: MSS. Archives. 2012/13. Series 2

Scope and Contents

This series contains the bulk of material generated by Huntsman during her field trips to Tokelau. Material has been arranged into six subseries: 2/1 - Field notes, Nukunonu, 2/2 - Field notes, Atafu, 2/3 - Kaiga notes, 2/4 - Food diaries, 2/5 - Census material, and 2/6 -Tokelauan food and cooking.

During her time in the field Huntsman used spiral bound notebooks to record her day to day observations of village life and make rough notes on specific topics. Separate to these field notebooks she also kept a diary or journal in which she kept a more personal record of her experiences in the field. Huntsman has decided to retain the bulk of her diaries at this time, with the exception of one or two relating to later field trips which are less personal in nature and were maintained as more of a combined diary and field notebook.

Additional material created in the field by Huntsman can be found in most other series of this collection; reflecting Huntsman's use and reuse of her field notes, population data, genealogies, village maps and recordings of folk tales and oral histories for different research purposes during her academic career.
