Scope and Contents In 1950 the Ngati Whatua people were removed from their homes at Okahu Bay, Auckland, to state houses on Bastion Point, the land on the flat at Okahu Bay having been compulsorily acquired by the Government under the Public Works Act. The Orakei Marae Trust Board was formed in 1959 with the object of providing a marae so that the Ngati Whatua could re-establish their tribal life and customs.
