Dorothy Morton letters from Ida Eise.

 Collection
Identifier: MSS-Archives-A-253

Scope and Contents

The collection contains letters from Ida Eise, an Auckland painter who taught at Elam School of Art and was a prominent member of the Auckland Society of Arts along with fellow artist Dorothy Morton. Eise was strongly influenced by the ideas of John Weeks (1888-1965), painter and art teacher, much of whose work was destroyed in a fire at Elam School of Art in 1949. The collection includes a letter from John Weeks to Dorothy Morton, referring to the fire and including a photograph, with negatives, of Ida Eise with Auckland painter, James Turkington. In the photograph Eise and Turkington are looking at a portrait of Eise by Miss E.E. Ward.
