N File. Part 1. A note at the front of the original ring binder containing N File said: N127 Foreign Ships. See special file
. We received no special file marked Foreign Ships., 1929 - 1930
Scope and Contents
Michael Coleman (p.6) describes the coded system
of filing. He writes: A quick glance at the inventory reveals that some of these files seem to have disappeared (Files A-G for example)
. We now have Files A-F, as well as M, N, O, Q, R. The reasons for the filing arrangement remain obscure. Files B and E have been kept in sequence, but though File B contains some correspondence it is mainly synopses of cases in the Arbitration Court, Court of Appeal and Magistrates Court, 1906-1950, concerning workers' compensation, etc.; File E consists of Secretary's report to stopwork meeting auckland branch
1920-1950 (It should be noted that File G is not missing from D-8 as Coleman states, but is placed in Series 3, Container 56).
An index to the coded system of files has been received with this collection. It appears to index the A to W files alphabetically by name of respondent, and gives a brief summary of the subject discussed.
