Oceania: Mangareva., n.d.
Scope and Contents
The images in the Anthropology Photographic Archive fall into sequences: archived images and the corresponding reference images.
Archived images consist of negatives, slides and transparencies and were filed under the photographer’s name, followed by location, then date. The reference images sequence was intended to be the access point for archive users; it consists of prints arranged by location and topic.
There are some exceptions to the rule. Not all prints have negatives, and not all the negatives have a corresponding print. Where a good condition negative is present, and the image has been digitised, the reference print has been discarded. If there has been any doubt regarding the condition of the negative, or presence of a digital reproduction, the reference print has been retained.
