This series contains material related to the writing and publication of The future of Tokelau: decolonising agendas 1975-2006.
The book, published in 2007 was written by Judith Huntsman with assistance from Kelihiano Kalolo as a sequal to Tokelau: a historical ethnography, covers the history of Tokelau from the 1970s to the 2006 referendum in which Tokelauans voted to remain a dependency of New Zealand rather than become self-governing in free association with New Zealand.
The material in this series has been further divided into six subseries; 6/1 - Drafts and related papers; 6/2 - Preliminary papers; 6/3 - Research materials; 6/4 - Documents relating to United Nations visits to Tokelau; 6/5 - Research material arranged chronologically; 6/6 - Microstates project.
As part of her research for this book Huntsman received official access to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade files both at New Zealand Archives and within the Ministry. Due to the conditions of access some of the files in this series are restricted.
