Biographical / Historical
The composer went to an island in somebody else's canoe and was marooned there by her own peole. The name of the man who rescued her was Te Rakaiuru. The performer says that when the composer was left she became very downhearted, and later when the darkness enveloped her, her depression caused her to sing this lament for herself
