Biography
The Federation changed its name to The New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women (NZFGW) in 2001. Despite this and other attempts to increase membership, the Auckland Branch ceased to operate in May 2009. Awards previously made by the Auckland Branch Charitable Trust are now administered by the Kate Edger Educational Charitable Trust which also manages the still flourishing academic dress hire service.

The papers in this collection cover the period 1922 to 2000 with the bulk of the collection dating from the 1950s to the mid 1990s. The collection includes minutes, correspondence, annual reports and other administrative papers, clippings, biographical notes, publications, conference papers, photographs and oral histories. The memorial book commemorates honoured members of the Auckland Branch of the Federation of University Women. For each honoured member there is a short biography outlining their life, academic achievements and association with the Federation. The original biographies were written by other members of the Federation and then written into the book by skilled calligraphers. In addition to the beautiful calligraphy some early entries are accompanied by small sketches.

The bulk of this collection comprises the minutes of the Auckland Branch of the NZFUW from its formation in the 1920s until 1996. The first executive minute book includes the 1920 by-laws of the International Federation and a list of Branch members for 1920-1923. Accompanying the minute books is a roll book of members’ names and addresses and places of work covering the period 1924-1926, and two sets of membership cards compiled between 1953 and 1972.
