The collection consists of drafts of the poem 'Calling the roll' which was commissioned by the University of Auckland Centenary Committee. Also included is correspondence between the Chairman of the Centenary Committee, Professor Nicholas Tarling, and Smithyman.

Collection comprises typescripts of three poems composed by Smithyman to mark the retirement of three collegues, Peter Dane, Bill Pearson and Karl Stead from The University of Auckland English Department. The poems are entitled: 'Peter Dane retiring', 'Words for Bill Pearson', 'Yes (C)K.S.'.
