Teacher's diary from 1940, belonging to M.V. Hutchinson during his time spent in Te Kao. Diary contains reminders for birthdays, comments on social events, and decriptions of his experience during his time teaching at a Native School in Te Kao, Aotearoa New Zealand.

Biographical / Historical
Maurice Hutchinson (?1919 - 2005) attended Mount Albert Grammer School (Auckland) from 1931 to 1935. He graduated with an MA in French from the University of Auckland and returned as a staff member in 1944, teaching mainly French and English. He taught at Te Kao pirmary school (a designated Native School) between January and December 1940.
Maurice later taught at Avondale College and Auckland Grammar School, where he was HOD Languages 1957-1959, and coach of the soccer First XI. He wrote text books for French that were used throughout New Zealand and later became an inspector of secondary schools. He was an avid tennis player, and played often during his time in Te Kao.
