The majority of the files of correspondence and related papers date from the 1980s and early 1990s and document disputes handled by the union pertaining to pay and conditions for school caretakers and cleaners, the introduction in 1991 of Tomorrow’s Schools programme and the increasing use of contract cleaners by schools and businesses.
