Scope and Contents

This collection represents the research material amassed by Leo King relating to Minnie Francis White (1891-1984), Robert Field Procter (1879-1984) and Betty Beadle (1924-2002).

Material includes reproductions of paintings and drawings, with information about the collections where the artworks are housed; correspondence between King and various art and cultural institutions; historical documentation, genealogical tables and press clippings.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Leonard (Leo) Arthur King (1921-2015) studied sculpture and ceramics in the United Kingdom, later exhibiting in New Zealand, Australia and Italy. King gained a M.A. (Hons) (1990) and PhD. (1996) in Art History from the University of Auckland, and has contributed to New Zealand Potter; Ceramics: art and perception; and Art New Zealand. His publications include: Minnie Francis White: an art history (2000); Robert Field Procter: New Zealand artist 1879-1931 (2002) and Betty Beadle: sculptor, medallist (2012).
