Scope and Contents

The letter book contains copies of outgoing correspondence signed by Daniel B. Patterson relating to his architectural practice. The majority of letters are to clients and contractors working on specific projects, including tender details and contracts.

Biographical / Historical

Daniel Boys Patterson was born in Southampton England in 1880. He trained as an architect before immigrating to New Zealand in 1909 with his wife Elsie. He became a member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects in 1914 and a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects in 1926. He worked as a sole practitioner prior to the formation of Daniel B. Patterson, Lewis and Sutcliffe in the 1950s.

Over the course of his career he designed numerous buildings including banks for the Auckland Savings Bank, churches, commercial buildings, a convent, factories, fire stations, houses and theatres.

He remained in practice until his death in May 1962, aged 82.
