Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series: In 1987 Clay was made Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Folder 1/7/2 includes congratulatory letters, cards and telegrams from Clay's friends and colleagues, correspondence relating to the Investiture Ceremony performed at Government House, Wellington and two photographs of the event. In the same year Clay was also invited to give the University of Auckland's Graduation address and drafts of the address can be found in folder 1/7/2....

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

This subseries of records covers Clay's activities in 2003. Clay returned to Texas Woman's University in May to recieve another honorary degree. Folder 1/23/3 contains correspondence relating the the degree, with photographs of the event and a copy of Clay's speech in folder 1/23/5.

The subseries also contains personal correspondence, in particular copies of emails to and from Clay's grandson Michael Clay are found in folder 1/23/4.

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

Clay spent much of 2004 revising the Reading Recovery guidebook for training teachers.

In March 2004 Clay was awarded a Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Auckland. She traveled to the USA in April to take part in several Reading Recovery visits and then to Reno, Nevada for the International Reading Association Convention in May. Folder 1/24/4 contains a programme for the Convention at which Clay spoke.
