Dates: nd.
Found in: Special Collections, University of Auckland / MSS-Archives-96/1, Frank O.V. Acheson papers. / Literary Projects. / Biography of G.S. Richardson. This has been placed first among the literary papers because it forms the largest component of Series 5; and because it contains unique Richardsoniana, possibly not previously available to historians of Samoa. This consists of two distinct sections: 5.2.1, which appears to be Richardson’s own papers including an official diary, correspondence and papers associated with his role as Administrator of Western Samoa, not rearranged Acheson for his research; and 5.2.2 which are Acheson’s notes for the biography, interfiled with relevant official papers of Richardson’s. / G.S. Richardson – original papers. / Mandate reports, official papers – not Diary – (F.O.V. Acheson’s note). They contain, as well as printed reports, clippings and typewritten and handwritten notes kept by Richardson and relevant to the political troubles in Western Samoa during his term of office, including the Mau movement and its supporters O.F. Nelson, E.W. Gurr and A.W. Smyth who were exiled to New Zealand; the Royal Commission Concerning the Administration of Western Samoa (1927); and O.F. Nelson’s petition to the League of Nations on Samoan affairs (see also 5.2.1.3k above).
