This has been placed first among the literary papers because it forms the largest component of Series 5; and because it contains unique Richardsoniana, possibly not previously available to historians of Samoa. This consists of two distinct sections: 5.2.1, which appears to be Richardson’s own papers including an official diary, correspondence and papers associated with his role as Administrator of Western Samoa, not rearranged Acheson for his research; and 5.2.2 which are Acheson’s notes for the biography, interfiled with relevant official papers of Richardson’s. / G.S. Richardson – original papers. / Contents of metal box presumably belonging originally to Richardson. Papers concerning his career in the army, and his sojourn in Samoa as Administrator. Includes: handwritten diary of voyage to England and to Geneva for League of Nations General Assembly [1928]; letters of condolence to family members after death of Richardson in 1938; list of honours and posts held, handwritten. 1891-1938.
