John Acheson heads his checklist of papers in this series Conflict with Dept 1938-43, and separates the series from Maori matters in Series 2. The two series cover the same years, and are, of course, interrelated. Judge Acheson’s view of certain Maori schemes and causes differed from that of the Department and this led ultimately to the revocation of his appointment to the Native Land Court in 1943.
