William Broughton literary research papers.
Scope and Contents
Collection comprises research papers, correspondence, publications and newspaper clippings, predominantly relating to 20th century New Zealand literature, but also to other matters of interest to Broughton such as politics and university teaching.
The papers have been organized into two series: (1) literary files and (2) newspaper clippings. The Literary files
contain materials Broughton had already organised into folders arranged alphabetically. These folders contain a mixture of correspondence, clippings, ephemera, and critical notes about New Zealand authors and their work. These organised materials were accompanied by two boxes of largely unsorted newspaper clippings. Newspaper clippings
contains these materials, sorted by the archivist into a topical hierarchy. As many clippings relate to the same literary organisations and individuals for whom folders exist in series 1; researchers should check both sets of materials for items of interest.
