Biographical / Historical

Began as a Painters Society in 1874, Auckland Society of Painters in 1884, Auckland House-Painters Union 1890. Name changes include Auckland House-Painters Industrial Union of Workers, Auckland Painters Industrial Union of Workers, Auckland Painters, Decorators and Leadlight Workers Industrial Union of Workers, Auckland Painters and Decorators, Glaziers and Sign-Writers Industrial Union of Workers. Stonemasons' union name changes include: Auckland Operative Stonemasons, Auckland Stonemasons and Monumental Workers. These two unions in 1990 merged into the Northern Furniture and Allied Industries Union.
