Scope and Contents

The papers consist of miscellaneous unpublished items in the Archdiocesan Office, Suva. The contents of the collection are: Accounts of Fijian secret societies - Le "Baki ou nanaga", les Kalou Vatu, le Keibuca, les Kai nakauvadra; brief histories of Fiji mission stations - Tailevu, Tunuloa, Naiserelagi, Suva, Ba and Yasawa, Kadavu, Lomary, Rotuma; lists of principal dates; a sketch entitled 'Slavery in Fiji', Levuka, Fiji, 22 June 1894; correspondence, 1903, concerning alleged Bible burnings; church statistics, 1900-1919; reports on native clergy, 1921-1922; an abridged Fijian grammar; letters re medical matters to and from Bishop J. Vidal, 1906-1910, and Bishop C.J. Nicolas, 1924-1928; an account of a journey to Wainibuka by Father F. Trillot addressed to Bishop Nicolas; an account of a visit to Lau by Father J.M. Orere, Suva, 30 August 1923; "Notes concernant l'Imprimerie" by Father P. Clement, 1922; papers relating to Father J.V. Pujebet's removal from Nukunau Island, Gilbert Islands, 1917-1919.
