New Zealand Engine Drivers', Firemen's, Greasers' and Assistants' Union records.

 Collection
Identifier: MSS-Archives-97/9

Scope and Contents

The records in this collection are principally those of the Auckland Certificated Engine Drivers’ Industrial Union of Workers, subsequently the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Engine Drivers’, Firemen’s, Greasers’ and Assistants’ Union. The manner of acquisition of the records by the University of Auckland Library is not known, and they are by no means a complete set of papers for the years they span. They comprise, arbitrarily, minutes, financial records, correspondence, and miscellaneous items.

In addition to records of the Auckland Branch, the collection contains correspondence files, numbered and labelled, prepared in the office of the Wellington Branch of the Union. These have been listed separately from the Auckland Branch material, in Series 8.

A manuscript entitled The red and the gold, by Michael Bland of Waihi, dated 1982, has been placed at Series 7. This is an unpublished account of the Waihi Miners’ Strike of 1912.
