Scope and Contents

The collection consists of documents on the Ringatu Church, ca. 1930-ca.1950, including 'A Maori form of Christianity - the Ringatu Church', by R. Winks (47 leaves). Also contained in the papers are the rules of the Ringatu Church Incorporated, records of the general meeting of the Ringatu Church held at Ruatoki, 25-28 June 1938, and at Wainui, 29 June 1938; plans for the consolidation of the church as carried out at a united meeting held at Ruatoki, 25- 28 June 1938; a report of the meeting at Ohope (p.1 and p.3); and a report of the general meeting at Muriwai, Gisborne, 1949. Also included are 3 letters dated 8 March 1977, 3 May 1978 and 12 July 1979, between Professor Winks and Professor Keith Sorrenson, Head of History, Auckland University, concerning provenance and deposition of the papers.
