Scope and Contents
This collection contains interviews with ten retired employees of the Chelsea Sugar Works recorded in May 1979 by Grant Watson as part of his research for an MA (History) paper on oral history. The recordings cover various aspect of work at the Sugar Works, industrial relations and the place of the Works in the life of the local community between ca 1920 and 1960. The collection also contains a copy of the research essay submitted by Watson at the conclusion of his research.
The oral histories were originally recorded onto eight audio cassettes, these were digitised and the interviews saved onto 10 compact discs in March 2010.
