Biographical / Historical

In 1959 five organisations formed in New Zealand to protest against nuclear testing: The Society for the Prevention of Nuclear War, Dunedin; Campaign Against Nuclear Warfare, Christchurch; The Movement for Nuclear Disarmament, Wellington, The Movement for Nuclear Disarmament, Hawkes Bay and The Movement Against Further Testing, Manufacture and Use of Nuclear Weapons, Auckland, affiliated and became The NZ Council for Nuclear Disarmament. In 1960 it was renamed The NZ Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament with provisional headquarters in Christchurch.

These records supplement an earlier deposit held at MSS & Archives A-249.
