A folder containing certificates pertaining to Philson's academic career, and documents of appointments to various medical positions. The material consists of: 4 certificates in Latin recording Philson's academic progress, dated 29 April 1835, 29 April 1837, 1 May 1838, 29 April 1839; 1 attendance certificate, 29 April 1839; a document authorized by Queen Victoria, 30 September 1844, appointing Philson assistant surgeon to the 58th Regiment; document of appointment as surgeon to the Auckland Regiment of the New Zealand Militia, 8 Dec 1856; document of appointment as coroner of the Auckland district, 11 Jan 1858; document of appointment as Health Officer to the Port of Auckland, 20 Jan 1860; document of appointment as surgeon to the Auckland Regiment of the New Zealand Militia, 26 April 1860; document of appointment as Coroner of the Auckland district, 17 Jan 1862, authorised by Sir George Grey; a letter 3 Feb 1873, from the Medical Superintendent, Auckland, expressing appreciation for Philson's work in fighting a smallpox epidemic and enclosing 100 pound cheque; document appointing Philson as Brigade Surgeon in the New Zealand Defence forces, 3 April 1887.
