Auckland United Flour Mills Employees' Union minutes.
Scope and Contents
The bound volume covers the period 30 Jan 1915-1 July 1939 and contains handwritten and typed minutes of union meetings. The union secretary at the time was William Sleeman Moxsom. Included with the volume are a small number of loose papers including letters from the Workers Educational Association. There are also a number of relevant newspaper clippings glued inside the front and back covers of the volume.
This collection was donated to the Library in 1969 by Wilfred (Bill) McAra, a member of the New Zealand Communist Party and trade unionist who had an interest in collecting early trade union material of historical interest. In a letter concerning the origin of these and other collected items among his papers McAra notes that he found the minute book “on top of a Sugar Bag of papers, alongside a Rubbish Bin in Pacific Buildings” (MSS & Archives 94/4, item 253).
