Scope and Contents
These records, which continue those of MSS & Archives 91/2 (and earlier records in MSS & Archives D-47), were given to the Library in May 1993.
They comprise minutes of Executive and Annual General Meetings, rules and sundry special files of the Northern Local Government Officers’ Union, minutes of meetings of the Central Area Section of the Union, and papers of the Auckland City Council Central Staff Committee, a further administrative subdivision of the NLGOU.
The collection also includes a set of tapes of oral history concerning the Union, recorded between 1983 and 1993.

Biographical / Historical
The Northern Local Government Officers Association was first registered as the Auckland Provincial District Local Authorities Officers’ Union in 1936. The Union was an affiliated member of the NZ Association of Local Government Officers’ Union. In October 1991 the Public Service Association started amalgamation talks with Local Government Officers’ Unions. Members of the Northern Union and the Central and Invercargill Local Government Officers Unions voted in favour of amalgamation and were amalgamated in Apr 1993.
