The IHRC was an incorporated society that sought to raise public awareness in New Zealand of human rights abuses, current and historical, committed by the Indonesian government. It was active between 2000 and 2012. Several of its members were also involved in the East Timor Independence Committee, which went into abeyance once East Timor (Timor-Leste) was relinquished by Indonesia in October 1999 into United Nations protection, finally gaining full independence in May 2002.
