Biographical / Historical

Philip (`Pip') Sydney Ardern (1881-1964) was an Auckland University College graduate who returned to the College with an honours degree from Oxford University and joined the English Department as a`Professor's Assistant' in 1910. Ardern became Associate Professor in 1940 and retired in 1947. Ardern specialised in the study of Old and Middle English.
