Biographical / Historical
The Epsom Tai Tokerau Students’ Association (ETTSA) was formed in September 2004 when the Auckland College of Education Students’ Association, Ngā Tauira O Akoranga O Tāmaki Makaurau (ACESA) changed its name to reflect the amalgamation of the Auckland College of Education and the University in Auckland. Prior to the amalgamation ACESA had been an incorporated society since May 1989. Membership of ETTSA was open to all students enrolled in courses at the Faculty of Education and those employed by the organisation including those employed at the Epsom campus cafeteria. In addition to protecting and furthering the rights of its member ETTSA was responsible for a range of social and sporting events and providing access to lockers, and fitness facilities on campus. The organisation also provided financial support for cultural and sporting clubs and administered the allocation of hardship grants to students in need. The collection also contains material relating to He Mangai Māori O Nga Kura Akoranga O Aotearoa an association representing Māori students, affiliated with both ACESA and ETTSA. It is difficult to ascertain when ETTSA folded, there are no records dating from later than 2012 in the collection and in 2017 the Association was struck off the Register of Incorporated Societies. At the time of transfer Faculty of Education and Social Work staff were unable to trace any ETTSA officeholders regarding the records.

Custodial History
The records in this collection were housed in the Student Services Centre at the Epsom Campus at the time of the May 2013 cafeteria fire. The records were retrieved from the smoke-damaged building prior to its demolition and stored in a disused classroom. In 2016 the Education and Social Work Facilities Manager, unable to trace any ETTSA officeholders to collect the records contacted the University Records Manager, Libby Nichol who suggested the records come to Special Collections.
