Auckland University College Ski Club hut plans and related papers.

 Collection
Identifier: MSS-Archives-2016/02

Scope and Contents

A collection of plans and papers related to the building of the Auckland University Ski Club's first ski hut at Whakapapa in 1957 collated by architect Denys Oldham. Oldham who was an architecture student and member of the Ski Club at the time drew the plans for the hut and helped with its construction. The hut was built in conjunction with the Victoria University's Ski Club and was used by both clubs until 1967 when Auckland decided to build a bigger lodge and sold Victoria University (VUW) their share in the hut. In 2009 the VUW club sold the hut to the Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd (RAL) who planned to use the building as a childcare facility.

In addition to plans and papers relating to the construction of the hut, the collection also includes some University of Auckland Ski Club ephemera, newsletters, photographs and reminiscences of the club's early days.
