Glynn Barratt collection of research materials relating to the Russians in New Zealand and the Southwestern Pacific Ocean.
Scope and Contents
The collection comprises photocopies of an unpublished diary (in German) by Lt Emilian von Loewenstern kept aboard the Russian ship Nadezhda on a voyage to the South Pacific in 1804, an English translation of a journal by N.I. Korobitsyn on Neva, also in 1804, as well as articles, letters, bibliographies, photographs, on the subject dating to 1981.
The collection relates to Barratt's research on the Russian presence in the South Pacific, part of which he carried out at Waikato University as a Sabbatical Visitor.

Professor Glynn Barratt is a member of the Russian Department of Carleton University, Ottawa. His book, Bellingshausen : a visit to New Zealand 1829, was first published by the Dunmore Press, Palmerston North in 1979.
