Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

During the late 1940s Professor Rodwell and Mr Bruce G. Hardie, of the Economics Department, Auckland University College, intended to write a history of James Busby. In 1948 Miss Agnes Busby made family papers available to them for their research. Some of the papers in this collection are, presumably, copies of that material; and there are copies of other material relating to early New Zealand history. The book was never published.

Folder 1 contains a checklist of material in the collection. Against descriptions of the contents of Folders 1-3, Mair, Busby and Hobson papers, there is this note: These need a warning to students that they may not be correct with originals; and a further note concerning the Busby letters: Busby papers are in the National Archives – Judith Binney said some are missing and that perhaps these could be transcripts of the missing letters... However, this has not been verified.
