Scope and Contents
The photographs are mainly a record of field work and complement the field notebooks. In general they have been ordered chronologically, with the enlargements being located with the contact print sheets. The earlier contact print sheets (1958) had been cut into sections and stapled onto sheets of paper with some description of each, usually location and date. These have suffered damage from staple marks. Many of the contact print sheets have the prints numbered, probably the ones chosen for enlargement.
Most of these photographs were taken by J.S. or E.J.S. J.S. took photographs of the taumafa kavas filmed to assist with recording seating and serving sequences for the film transcript.
David Attenborough sent 33 enlargements from London from the film but it is uncertain which these are or if they are part of the collection.
All the photographs are black and white. Two postcards are included in the miscellaneous section at the end of the photograph series.
