Scope and Contents
The papers contained in the following two folders were donated with the papers of Professor Thomas by his son Norman Russell Withiel Thomas in the 1960s. However, these papers are in reality Norman's own papers dating from 1933 to 1942 and relate to his brother Acland's interests in Norfolk Island.
Ackland Withiel Thomas an architect served as an Engineer with the NZEF in France during the First World War where he was awarded an MC and lost his left leg at Le Quesnoy.
Acland went to Norfolk Island in late 1931 and remained there until the death of his father in December 1937. While residing on the on the island he produced the Norfolk Island Times.
