Papers of Waitakere Branch of NZ Labour Party 1976
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of records of the Henderson Branch electorate committee of the New Zealand Labour Party, 1976- 1978; and includes minutes of the campaign committee, and various other committees, newsletters, 1975 election material, financial statements, and correspondence.
Files of the last 18 months of the Henderson Labour Electorate Committee, now out of existence. Donated by Dr J. Prebble, Law Faculty.
The papers consist of the records of the Henderson Labour Electorate Committee and the Waitakere Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. Dr Prebble was a member of the Henderson LEC and Auckland Regional Council, when in June 1976 he was elected President of the Waitakere Branch which was formed in that year. Mary Miller, Secretary of the Waitakere Branch was also elected Secretary of the Henderson LEC in June 1976.
It is presumably for this reason that the records of these two district organisations have been filed together for 1976/1977.
In the boundary changes of 1977 the Henderson Electorate was abolished, parts of it being incorporated into the New Lynn and Te Atatu electorates, and part of it forming the new Waitakere electorate. A new Waitakere Labour Electorate Committee was formed but the minutes of only the first few are included in the collection.
The original order of the papers has been kept.
