Flashlight, 1st series - incomplete run, includes supplement, 1937 to 1940., 1937 - 1940

From 1937 to 1976, the Federated Hotel, Hospital, Restaurant and Related Trades Employees’ Industrial Association of Workers produced an informative magazine - Flashlight for its members. Two series of the magazine were produced by the Association, the first series was issued monthly and ran from August 1937 to July 1940 and the second series, a quarterly magazine, began in November 1963. There had, however, been an unsuccessful attempt at re-starting the magazine in June 1961 when a single issue Vol.1 – no. 1 appeared. The second series of the magazine ran until December 1976 when it was replaced by a newspaper in tabloid form, known as the Union news.

This series contains: Vol.1 – no.1 (August 1937) to Vol.3 – no.11 (June 1940). Please note that this run is incomplete and the following issues are missing; Vol.1 – no.2 (September 1937), Vol.1 – no.7 (February 1938), Vol.2 – nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 (August, September, October and November 1938) and no.7 (January 1939), Vol.3 - no. 4 (November 1939) and no.12 (July 1940).

Also included here are; Vol.1 – no.1 (June 1961), Vol.1 – no.1 (November 1963) to Vol.1 – no.50 (December 1976), this run is also incomplete with two issues missing; Vol.1 – no. 5 (March 1965) and Vol.1 – no.7 (November or December 1965).

The series also includes examples of Push, Hosp and Shift, which were produced at the regional level by the Wellington, Canterbury and Northern Hotel, Hospital, Restaurant and Related Trades Employees IUOW respectively.
