Chartered Clubs' - Auckland Workingmen's Club
- papers relating to various disputes including 1960 blacklisting of the club over dismissal of Chris Bell, Union delegate., 1953 - 1965
Scope and Contents
This series contains clearly labelled files maintained by the Union Secretary on a range of subjects. The files contain correspondence, inwards and outwards and papers relating to disputes, awards negotiations and cover the period 1932 to 1990. The files relate to the day to day business of both the Auckland Hotel Workers and the national body the New Zealand Federated Hotel... Workers Association. Sometimes material created by both organisations can be found within the one file, while other files relate entirely to the work of one or the other of the organisations. This situation reflects the fact that from 1932 until his death in early 1962 Frederick George Young was the secretary of both organisations simultaneously. Following Young’s death his position was taken over by George Armstrong. Like Young, Armstrong was secretary of both organisations until his death in September 1973.
The items listed below have been arranged in roughly chronological order without regard to whether they were created by the Auckland/Northern Hotel Workers Union or the Federated Hotel Workers Association. Appendix A contains a list of the same items arranged by creator.
