This series contains personal and family papers including material compiled by Cumberland's children after his death. Due to their format, items of personal memorabilia can also be found in other parts of the collection including a large scrapbook of newspaper clippings and photographs compiled by Marjorie Cumberland during the 1930s, 40s and 50s (see item 12/3).

Likewise, Series 14 includes photographs of Cumberland's childhood, family and the many swimming and water polo teams he was a member of; while Series 15 contains the medals won by Cumberland competing in these sports, the blazer worn by Cumberland at the 5th International University Games in Turin, 1933 and the iconic Swanndri jacket which he wore while presenting the Landmarks television documentary series.
