This collection comprises 71 reels of microflim containing a selection of Church Missionary Society records which relate to the work of the Australian and New Zealand Missions from 1808-1884. The collection includes: committee and sub-committee minutes, 1799-1884 (both with indexes): mission books, 1820-1880; bishop's correspondence, 1830-1880; missionaries reports, 1836-1858 and New Zealand letters, 1822-1860.

The records filmed were selected by Michael Hitchings with CMS archivist, Rosemary Keen; and the microfilming carried out in 1959-1960. At the time of filming the original records were held by the CMS Archives, London, but are now held, by the University of Birmingham Library.

This inventory is based on Michael Hitchings' 1959, Church Missionary Society, London. Guide to the microfilmed archives relating to the Australian and New Zealand Missions, 1808-1884. The original of this guide may be found at NZGC 266.3 C56g.
