Biographical / Historical
According to Puke Tari this song was composed in 1883. It is an instruction by Te Kooti to the people of Tūhoe not to allow surveys and partitions of their lands, or to have any dealings with the Māori Land Court or any other proceedings leading to the sale of their land.
