Biographical / Historical

According to the performers, this was composed by Marahera for Takuira, the great grandfather of Turua Te Tomo. However, Pei Te Huinui was told by Turau Te Tomo that the waiata is by Te Rerehau, wife of Takuira. She composed it because her husband was away and she felt lonely.
