Biographical / Historical
This tangi is a song of farewell for the Chatham Islands composed when the Urenui people left there for New Zealand. The composer died only a month of so after reaching New Zealand. The singer was still a schoolgirl at the time of the composition. Te Kaipuke is the name of the sailing ship upon which the party travelled from the Chathams.
