Biographical / Historical
According to the performer this is a lament for Terama Apakura, a cannibal who hunted for men and eventually ate his own neice. This crime was avenged by Tūhourangi, who killed Apakura and took his body to Motutawa "where they had a feast of him". Iritoa composed the song at Te Ngakau-o-hine-kuku"
